WOLVERINES OPEN WAC PLAY SATURDAY
The 2019 WAC season begins Saturday when Utah Valley University hosts Houston Baptist at 7:30 p.m. MT at Clyde Field in Orem. The match caps Homecoming Week at UVU and is the second game of a women's/men's doubleheader.
"Homecoming matches are always exciting, and to kick off WAC play on Clyde Field in front of The Den, makes this match even that much more important," UVU head coach Greg Maas said. "We're coming off a very challenging non-conference schedule, and our preparation and focus leading into WAC play is right on track. This team is ready to go and eager to chase another WAC championship for UVU men's soccer."
On Monday, senior Blake Frischknecht was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals last week for the Wolverines (3-3-1). Frischknecht, who is currently tied for the WAC lead with four goals, scored the lone goal in a one-nil shutout of Santa Clara last Friday. He also scored in UVU's 2-1 loss to No. 6 Saint Mary's on Sunday at the Johann Memorial Classic.
Joining Frischknecht on the All-Tournament Team from Utah Valley were fellow seniors Jaiden Waggoner and Alec Felix, who is tied for the WAC lead with three assists.
Also on Monday, Felix was named as one of 30 NCAA Division I men's soccer candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. He is the fourth UVU soccer player to be named a candidate for the award that focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
UP NEXT
The Wolverines head to Texas for two games in WAC play next week where they'll face UT Rio Grande Valley (Oct. 4) and Incarnate Word (Oct 6).
