Isaiah White scored 15 points and
Brandon Averette added 14 to lead Utah Valley in a 65-61 setback to California Baptist on Wednesday night at the UCCU Center.

Tied 4-4 just four minutes into the game, California Baptist seven unanswered points to jump out to an 11-4 advantage with 14 minutes to go in the first. The Wolverines responded with a 7-2 run over their own to cut the CBU lead to just two points, 13-11, with 10:36 remaining. Leading 24-20 with 4:49 remaining in the half, CBU went on a 14-4 run that included back-to-back threes by Ferron Flavors Jr to take a 38-24 lead into the break.

Utah Valley opened the second half on a 15-2 run over a 3:21 span to cut the CBU lead to just one point, 40-39, with 15:12 remaining. UVU trailed by just two points, 50-48, with 10:40 to play before the Lancers used a 9-2 run to take a 59-50 lead with 7:27 to play.

Brandon Averette knocked down a high-arching shot from the left side with 57 seconds to cut the CBU lead to just two points, 63-61, with 57 seconds to play. UVU got a defensive stop and was fouled on the other end. After a missed one-and-one attempt, UVU's
Emmanuel Olojakpoke got an offensive board to give the Wolverines the ball with 24.6 seconds to play and still trailing by two, 63-61. UVU was not able to get a shot off and lost the ball in the paint before being tied up with CBU getting possession.

California Baptist's Milan Aquaah then knocked down a pair of free throws with 7.5 seconds to secure the 65-61 win for the Lancers.

White scored his 15 points on 7 of 13 shooting. He also pulled down five rebounds with one assist and a steal. Averette knocked down 5 of 12 shots from the field and went a perfect 4 of 4 from the charity stripe for his 14 points.
TJ Washington scored six points to go along with a game-high 10 assists.
Trey Woodbury had nine points on the night with six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

The Wolverines now have 10 days off before returning to the court on Saturday, Feb. 8 against Seattle U. The game will tip-off at 2 p.m.
