OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University women's basketball returns to the court on Thursday with a 4 p.m. MT tip against William Jessup University in the UCCU Center. The Wolverines (1-0) last played on Nov. 28, a 58-47 win over Southern Utah in the season opener. The game can be seen live on the WAC Digital Network (WACDigitalNetwork.com) with live stats via StatBroadcast at UVUStats.com.
Both games scheduled for last week were canceled due to COVID-19 issues, but UVU was able to move what was supposed to be a Jan. 2 match up with William Jessup, to Thursday afternoon. It will be the first meeting between UVU and WJU, an NAIA program from Rocklin, California that competes in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
LAST TIME OUT
Nehaa Sohail scored nine of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as UVU earned a season-opening 58-47 win over in-state rival Southern Utah University on Nov. 28. Both Sohail and Josie Williams recorded double-doubles for the Wolverines. Sohail had 11 rebounds to go along with her 16 point while Williams finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Maria Carvalho added 12 points and four assists while Kayla Anderson finished with eight points, six rebounds and a pair of steals for Utah Valley. Sohail set new career highs in both points and rebounds, and on Nov. 30 was named the WAC Player of the Week.
ABOUT WILLIAM JESSUP
William Jessup will be playing three games in three days, starting on Tuesday at WAC program California Baptist. CBU defeated WJU 91-62 in an afternoon contest in Riverside. From there the Warriors will travel to Cedar City for a game at Southern Utah on Wednesday, before closing out the busy stretch on Thursday in Orem. The Warriors are 1-2 on the season with their first loss coming by just on point at Nevada. Following this current trip, the NAIA program will have played four of its first five games at NCAA Division I programs.
