SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – After having UC Riverside's Battle of the Rock cancelled to open the spring season last week, the Utah Valley University women's golf team scheduled a last-minute Dual in the Desert against Portland State on Thursday at Talking Stick Golf Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Vikings claimed the tightly contested 18-hole dual match 6 ½ to 5 ½.
The dual featured a Ryder Cup-style format with six holes each of foursomes, fourball and individual matches.
The first six holes of foursomes, or alternate shot, ended in a tie at 1 ½ to 1 ½. Each team won a match and the third was a tie. UVU won the four-ball segment, 2-1 to have 3 ½ to 2 ½ lead going into the individual matches.
PSU took the individual matches, 4-2, on the final six holes to claim the dual.
