Offense erupts in 16-2 win over Saint Mary's

MORAGA, Calif. – Utah Valley University's offense broke out in a 16-2, five-inning win at Saint Mary's in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader. Five players had multi-hit games including Abby Doughty, who went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and an RBI.

Peyton Prigge was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored, Jade Miller had two hits and two batted in and Lyndsay Steverson and Linnah Rebolledo also both had two-hit game. UVU led 6-1 before an eight-run fourth inning put the game out of reach. The Wolverines scored in every inning.

UVU got a run on three hits in the first to take an early lead. Siena Sandoval's two-out single drove in Basia Query from second to make it a 1-0 game.

A four-run second pushed the lead to 5-0. Prigge walked with one out and Emery Nielson singled before Madison Carr walked to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Prigge to score before Miller doubled home both runners. Doughty later delivered a two-out double to left to bring home Miller and make it 5-0.

After the Gaels got on the board with a run in the second, the Wolverines got that run right back when an error allowed Prigge, who doubled and stole third, to score.

Two Saint Mary's errors in the fourth contributed to the eight-run inning for UVU. The Wolverines sent 14 hitters to the plate in the inning and had five different players drive in runs. With one run in, Doughty tripled and scored on a Sandoval RBI and Kyla Hardy drove two more runs in with a base hit. Jaeden Barajas, Jessie Wilson and Arianna Owens also had RBIs in the inning. Barajas and Wilson both singled and Owens was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Prigge drove home the final two runs of the game in the fifth to drive in Rebolledo and Steverson. Devyn Cretz (4-1) got the win after pitching four innings and striking out a pair.
