OREM, Utah – U.S. U-18 Men's National Team member and Real Salt Lake Academy's Erwin Martinez has signed a National Letter of Intent with Utah Valley University, head coach Greg Maas announced on Tuesday.
 
As a member of RSL Academy, Martinez has appeared in 94 games since 2016. In 2018, he led the RSL Academy team to the Southwest Division Championship and the U.S. Development Academy National Quarterfinals. Prior to joining RSL, he was a member of the '01 US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Region Team.
 
"Erwin is unquestionably one of the best young center backs in the country. His experience with the U.S. U-18's and RSL, matched with his maturity and character, will have an immediate impact on our program," Maas said. "Erwin is a proven winner, with an exceptionally high Soccer IQ, and his versatility solidifies our team as we prepare for another exciting year on Clyde Field for UVU men's soccer."
 
Martinez joins an already deep signing class that also includes U-17 U.S. and U-17 Canada Men's National Team member Jamie Dunning, NJCAA All-American Cameron Weston, and Saint Mary's transfer Erik Lyons.
