BYU guard Colby Leifson transfers to Utah Valley

OREM—Utah Valley University men's basketball coach Mark Madsen has announced that BYU guard Colby Leifson will transfer to UVU and play for the Wolverines.

"We are thrilled to welcome Colby to the UVU family," said Madsen. "He is a dead-eye shooter who can change a game within minutes. One of the things that sets Colby apart is his work ethic as he lives in the gym and puts in tremendous time in the weight room. I am impressed with Colby's ability to move without the ball and find openings on the perimeter to create opportunities for the team. Above all, Colby and his family are first rate human beings. We are grateful to welcome Colby to Orem, Utah."

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard spent his freshman season (2016-17) at BYU where he saw action in 26 games, averaging 1.6 points. Leifson knocked down 13 shots from long range during the 2016-17 season. He scored a career-high 10 points against UT Arlington in BYU's National Invitational Tournament game.

Following his time at BYU, Leifson served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Leifson prepped at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Georgia. He averaged 17.0 points per game during his senior season at NGHS. He also connected on 41 percent of his shots from beyond the arc and made 93 percent of his shots at the free throw line. Leifson knocked down 93 three-point shots as a senior, ranking him second all-time in a single season in Gwinnett County history. He earned All-Gwinnett County and all-region first team honors and played for the Atlanta All Stars during the AAU season.

The Georgia native will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
