UVU's Averette named to WAC All-Newcomer Team

DENVER—Utah Valley redshirt junior guard Brandon Averette has been named to the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball All-Newcomer team, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Averette becomes just the fourth player in UVU history to be named to the WAC's all-newcomer team. Zach Nelson earned the honor in 2014, Konner Frey in 2016, and Jake Toolson in 2018.

Averette (Richardson, Texas) earns the honor after a posting five games of 15 or more points in WAC play. During league play, he ranked fifth in the WAC in free throw percentage (86.4), seventh in assists (46), eighth in minutes per game (32.0), 10th in field goals made (68), 11th in steals (16), and 11th in minutes played (480). Averette ranks 11th in the league in scoring this season at 12.8 points per game.

Utah Valley has earned the No 6 seed at the WAC Tournament this week. The Wolverines will take on No. 3 Seattle U on Thursday, March 12 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and ESPN 960 AM radio.
