OREM, Utah – Utah Valley's track and field teams have been recognized for 2019-20 All-Academic accolades, with senior pole-vaulter,
Larry Still, receiving an individual award. The awards were announced on Thursday, July 16, by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Â
The Wolverine women's and men's squads posted respective 3.45 and 3.17 cumulative GPAs, marking the ninth time each team made the national academic list in the same season under head coachÂ
Scott Houle.
Â
Still receives this nomination after becoming just the second All-American in the school history, and the first pole vaulter to do so. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic, Still needed a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and be ranked in the top 96 nationally in his event. Still was set to participate in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships before it was canceled abruptly by the COVID-19 outbreak. His mark of 5.50m in the pole vault set a school record and ranked tenth nationally.
Â
In all, 463 teams were honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics, followed by a total of 659 women and 452 men individually that earned All-Academic honors during the 2019-2020 track and field seasons. To qualify as a USTFCCA All-Academic team, they needed a cumulative team GPA over 3.0. Both teams ranked in the top 125 nationally in terms of cumulative team GPA. Â
