Utah Valley plays Seattle U to 1-1 draw on the road

SEATTLE—Grace Beeston scored a goal in the 17th minute to lead Utah Valley to a 1-1 double overtime draw on the road against WAC rival Seattle U on Sunday afternoon at Championship Field in Seattle, Washington.

Utah Valley moves its record to 7-5-2 overall and 2-1-2 in WAC play. Seattle U is now 6-5-3 overall and 0-3-2 in league play.

"The team came out and were mentally invested and physically competed in the entire match," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "We're not happy with the tie and we felt like we did enough to win. Seattle is a very good team and we can walk away from this with our heads held high with the effort we gave."

Utah Valley struck first in the 17th minute as the ball was headed by Julianna Carter to Sadie Brockbank who then passed it off to Grace Beeston. Beeston then fired a shot from about 25 yards out and past the keeper on the right side to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.

Seattle U responded with an equalizer just over a minute later as Leahi Manthei sent a ball towards the goal that deflected off a UVU defender and into the back of the net to tie the game up a 1-1.

Utah Valley outshot Seattle U 12-9 on the day, including a 7-4 advantage on shot on goal. The Wolverines had six corner kicks to Seattle's one. Brockbank led UVU with four shots, including one on frame. Heather Stainbrook had three shots and Nicole Ray had three.

Brooklyn Nielsen led UVU in goal with three saves in the 110 minutes of play.

Utah Valley will continue WAC road play against in-state foe Dixie State on Saturday, Oct. 16 in St. George. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network.
