UVU HITS ROAD FOR TWO-GAME TRIP
Coming off one of its best offensive results of the season, Utah Valley University men's soccer hits the road for two games beginning Friday at Chicago State in a 4 p.m. CT/3 p.m. MT contest. The trip concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT/noon MT at Houston Baptist. Both games will air live on the WAC Digital Network.
Five games remain in the WAC regular season as the Wolverines (6-3-2, 3-2-0) vie for one of the six spots in November's WAC Tournament in Phoenix. UVU is currently tied with UT Rio Grande Valley for the fifth and sixth spots, among those eligible for the tournament. The WAC table will be sorted by points per match, instead of total points, with UVU and UTRGV having their earlier contest canceled due to weather.
LAST TIME OUT
Four different players scored as Utah Valley notched a convincing 4-1 win over UNLV last Saturday night at Clyde Field. Sterling Penniston-John and Evans Armah both scored in the opening 45 minutes, and Jojea Kwizera and James Peña scored second-half goals for the Wolverines.
Penniston-John scored off the left post on a header in the 23rd minute and Armah later gave UVU a 2-0 lead at the half with a 30th-minute goal. Kwizera, who also had an assist in the game, made it 3-0 when he scored with his left foot in the 64th minute. UNLV got a goal in the 79th minute to make it 3-1, but Peña chipped in his first goal with less than four minutes to go in regulation.
UP NEXT
The Wolverines return to Clyde Field for the final time this season next week in games against the two teams currently tied for the WAC lead — Air Force (Oct. 28) and Grand Canyon (Oct. 30). Both games kick off at 2 p.m. with Saturday also Senior Day for Utah Valley.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Chicago State is 2-9-2 overall and 0-5-1 so far in WAC play. The Cougars are in their first full season of men's soccer and gotten their wins over Northwestern and Green Bay. Friday is the first ever meeting between the programs. Houston Baptist is 2-11-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the WAC and hosts California Baptist on Friday night. Utah Valley is 5-2-0 all-time against HBU, but the Huskies have won two of the three games in Houston.

Utah Valley University men's soccer coach Kyle Beckerman is being honored for his playing career by Real Salt Lake on Nov. 3 in the the team's 2021 home finale against Portland.
