Utah Valley travels to Phoenix to take on WAC-newcomer SFA

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Utah Valley travels to the Grand Canyon State for a matchup against WAC-newcomer Stephen F. Austin on Friday, Oct. 22. Friday's match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. MT. in GCU Arena and will be broadcasted on the WAC Digital Network. This marks the first-ever matchup between Stephen F. Austin and Utah Valley on the volleyball court.

Stephen F. Austin is from Nacogdoches, Texas, and calls the Western Athletic Conference home. SFA is 13-5 this season, including a 4-2 record in WAC play. The Lumberjacks went 23-6 in its final season in the Southland Conference a season ago, before join the WAC this season.

Kazna Tanuvasa led Utah Valley to a dominant sweep of WAC foe, Dixie State, 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-21) at Lockhart Arena to pick up the Wolverines fifth-straight conference win. Utah Valley also moves to 5-0 all-time in the Old Hammer rivalry against DSU. Tanuvasa led the Wolverines with 14 kills, on .481 hitting, to go along with six digs and a pair of aces. Kennedy added seven kills and a career-high four blocks while Bell chipped in nine kills and seven digs. Abbie Miller had another double-double, lead UVU with 18 assists and 11 digs while Natalie Palmer finished with 11 assists to go along with seven digs. Bryton Bishop finished with 11 digs and tied a career high with nine assists.

Senior outside hitter Kazna Tanuvasa surpassed Jessica Endres for third all-time in kills in UVU history in a thrilling five-set win over WAC-foe Seattle U. Tanuvasa finished the match with 20 kills, bringing her career total to 1418, passing Endres' 1401 career kills. Tanuvasa now needs 103 kills to climb into second in the records, and to pass Camie Manwill's total of 1520, and 183 kills to pass Kayli Doxey for the most all-time.

The Wolverines currently rank #5 in the nation in block assists as a team with 336. Utah Valley also ranks in the top 25 in the country in both total blocks (196.0) and blocks/set (2.65) as a team, good enough for #13 and #21 in the nation, respectively. Sadie Hamson leads the Wolverines and the WAC, ranking in the top 60 in the country in blocks/set.

Senior outside hitter Kazna Tanuvasa is currently third in UVU history in career kills (1459), needing 62 to pass Camie Manwill for second all-time. Tanuvasa also ranks third in career attacks (3849) and fourth in ca- reer points (1636). Senior outside hitter Kristen Bell currently ranks seventh in career points (1134), eighth in kills (957), fifth in career attacks (2998), eighth in solo blocks (22), and 10th in aces (70). Abbie Miller now currently ranks eighth in career assists with 712 assists.
