BOULDER CREEK, Nev. – Victoria Estrada remains in second place on the individual leaderboard and teammate Leighton Shosted is right behind her in third place, as Utah Valley University women's golf sits in fifth place out of 18 teams after two rounds of play at The Clash at Boulder Creek at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

After opening with a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday, the sophomore Estrada followed that up by carding a 1-under-par 71 on Monday to remain in second place with a two-round tally of 4-under-par 140. Estrada's 4-under-par 140 is a new 36-hole school record for the Wolverines.

The Henderson, Nev., native Estrada got off to a stellar start on Monday morning by going birdie, birdie, birdie, par, eagle over her first five holes en route to recording 4-under on the front nine. She then followed that up with 3-over in windy conditions on the back nine on her way to remaining in second place on the leaderboard and just one stroke back of UNLV's Veronica Joels. Estrada also leads the event with 11 birdies over two rounds of play and is also tied for the tournament lead in eagles with one.

The freshman Shosted too had a strong round on Monday with a 2-over-par 74 to move up to third place on the individual leaderboard with a 1-over-par 145. After carding a 1-under 71 on Sunday, Shosted posted the 2-over 74 on Monday thanks to recording a trio of birdies on Monday, which included a pair of birdies on the back nine.

As a team, UVU dropped a couple of spots to now sit in fifth place with a 23-over-par 599. After beginning with a 4-over 292 on Sunday, the Wolverines followed that up with a 19-over 307 on Monday. With the 23-over 599, UVU will enter Tuesday's final round just one shot back of WAC foe Grand Canyon for fourth (598) and five back of San Francisco for third (594). UNLV leads the event at 8-over-par (584), while UC Riverside is in second at 13-over (589).

"Our girls got off to an awesome start today. We knew the wind was going to come and the team prepared for it. Victoria had it 5-under through five holes," head UVU coach Juli Erekson said. "I'm very proud of the way the girls fought to the end today despite some bad holes. The amount of 'others' on our cards is where we need to improve. Overall, I'm glad we had an opportunity to contend and now we know what we need to do better to stay there."

By being in fifth place at the 18-team event, UVU will enter Tuesday ahead of Seattle U (600), Fresno State (601), Gonzaga (605), Long Beach State (607), Sacramento State (608), South Dakota State (612), host Northern Arizona (613), California Baptist (615), North Dakota (615), Southern Utah (623), Wyoming (625), Weber State (628), and Portland State (632).

Behind Estrada and Shosted, senior Bailey Henley (80-79) and sophomore Caylyn Ponich (73-86) are next for UVU by both being tied for 78th at 15-over-par (159). Sophomore Lauren Taylor rounds out UVU's field of five for the event in 90th place with an 18-over 162 (79-83). Playing the event as an individual, sophomore Macy Robertson Murphy sits in the middle of the pack at the event by being tied for 56th with a 12-over-par 156 (75-81).

UNLV's Joels leads the individual leaderboard and is just one stroke ahead of Estrada with a 5-under-par 139 (70-69).

Boulder Creek Golf Club marks the same course where the 2021 WAC Women's Golf Championships were held and where Estrada won her UVU's first individual WAC title en route to earning the program's inaugural bid to an NCAA Regional last spring.

The final round of NAU's Clash at Boulder Creek will begin with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 9 a.m. MT/8 a.m. PT. Live scoring can be followed by visiting BirdieFire.com.
