OREM – Season highs by
Kendra Nock and
Kaili Downs led Utah Valley to a win over conference foe, Chicago State, 3-1 (25-16, 16-25, 25-23) in Lockhart Arena. With the win, the Wolverines improve to 11-10 on the season, including 6-4 in WAC play. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak by Cougars as they fall to 14-8 on the year and 6-4 in conference play.

The Wolverines got off to a fast start behind a pair of aces by both
Bryton Bishop and
Natalie Palmer, giving UVU an early 14-4 lead. After a 4-1 run by the Cougars, Bishop and
Kristen Bell each had aces to push the lead back out to 19-9. Chicago State made a final push, using a 5-1 run to trim the lead to 20-14, but Utah Valley scored five of the final seven points to take the set, 25-16.

Chicago State used a 7-1 run to get out to an early 8-3 advantage in the second set. After both teams went back and forth, UVU used a 6-2 run to trim the deficit to 14-12. CSU scored three-straight points to extends its lead to 17-12 but Downs helped keep UVU close as the Wolverines cut the lead to 19-16. The Cougars pulled away down the stretch, scoring the final six points of the set to take the second set, 25-16, tying the match up at 1-1.

After both teams went back and forth,
Kazna Tanuvasa and
Kalea Kennedy sparked a 4-1 run to put UVU up, 5-2. Chicago State trimmed the lead down to one point, but Downs and the Wolverines responded with a 7-1 surge to extend its lead to 13-6. After a pair of CSU points, Tanuvasa and Nock led a 5-2 run to push the lead back out to 18-10. Another 4-1 run by the Wolverines extend the lead to 22-13, but the Cougars stormed back with a 10-1 run to tie the set up at 23-23. Nock and
Caleigh Vagana came up huge with a pair of blocks to finish off the set, 25-23, giving UVU a 2-1 advantage.

Utah Valley raced out to an early 10-4 lead in the fourth set behind Tanuvasa and Nock. CSU fought back to cut the lead to 14-10 but block by Nock and another ace by Bell push the lead back out to 17-10. After a pair of points by the Cougars, Tanuvasa sparked a 4-1 run to put the Wolverines up, 21-13. Chicago State was unable to challenge from there as Utah Valley took the final set, 25-18, to take the match 3-1.

Tanuvasa led the Wolverines with 11 kills to go along with four digs and a pair of blocks. Downs finished with a season-high 10 kills and Nock had a career-high 10 blocks to go along with five kills. Bell added six kills, six digs, and a season-high four aces. Palmer chipped in 19 assists, six digs, two kills, and a pair of aces while
Abbie Miller added 17 assists and two aces as well. Bishop tallied a team-high 12 digs to go along with three aces.

The Wolverines hit the road for its final road trip of the season as UVU heads first to Phoenix, Ariz. to take on Grand Canyon on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. MT. UVU will then take on New Mexico State on the road on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Las Cruces, N.M. at 1:00 p.m. MT.
