Wolverines head to Riverside to take on California Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Utah Valley continues its road trip, heading to the Golden State to take on WAC-foe, California Baptist, on Saturday, Oct. 9, in Van Dyne Gym. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. MT. This marks the seventh matchup on the court as the Wolverines hold an 2-4 record against the Lancers all-time. Utah Valley split the matchups against CBU last season in Riverside, winning the last match 3-1.

California Baptist is from Riverside, Calif., and calls the Western Athletic Conference home. CBU is 7-7 this season, including a 2-2 record in WAC play. The Lancers went 8-8 a season ago, incuding 4-8 in WAC matches.

Utah Valley rallied to defeat WAC-foe Seattle U, 3-2 (25-13, 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-8) on the road at Redhawk Center. Tanuvasa led the Wolverines with 20 kills on .368 hitting to go along with eight digs and three blocks. Bell added 15 kills and six digs and Fink chipped in nine kills and Sadie Hamson led UVU with five blocks. Miller finished with 29 assists to go along with four digs and a pair of aces and Natalie Palmer added a double-double with 16 assists, 10 digs, and a career-high four kills. Bryton Bishop led UVU with 17 digs and tallied six assists and a pair of aces.

Senior outside hitter Kazna Tanuvasa surpassed Jessica Endres for third all-time in kills in UVU history in a thrilling five-set win over WAC-foe Seattle U. Tanuvasa finished the match with 20 kills, bringing her career total to 1418, passing Endres' 1401 career kills. Tanuvasa now needs 103 kills to climb into second in the records, and to pass Camie Manwill's total of 1520, and 183 kills to pass Kayli Doxey for the most all-time.

Sadie Hamson's career night led Utah Valley to a record-setting match, however the Wolverines fell short against Grand Canyon, 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 14-16) in Lockhart Arena. UVU set a school-record with 22.5 total blocks while Hamson tied Makaila Jarema for the third most blocks in a match with 13 total blocks. Hamson and Jules also became the first UVU duo to each have double-digit blocks in the same match. The Wolverines were led by Hamson's 13 blocks, Fink's 10 blocks, and Kendra Nock's nine blocks.

Senior outside hitter Kazna Tanuvasa is currently third in UVU history in career kills (1418), needing four to pass Jessica Endres for third all-time. Tanuvasa also ranks third in career attacks (3756) and fourth in career points (1587.5). Senior outside hitter Kristen Bell currently ranks seventh in career points (1096.5), eighth  in kills (926), fifth in career attacks (2913), eighth in solo blocks (21), and 10th in aces (68). Abbie Miller now currently ranks eighth in career assists with 651 assists.
