OPENING TIP
- Utah Valley University hits the road this week for two contests, beginning Tuesday at in-state rival Southern Utah University. Tip is set for 6:30 p.m. MT from Cedar City with the game airing on ESPN+.
- The Wolverines (1-1) split their first two games, both at home in the UCCU Center. UVU opened the season with a 90-47 win over Park University before dropping a 71-62 decision to Mountain West Conference Fresno State.
- Through two games, Maria Carvalho is averaging 21. 5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while Josie Williams has posted identical lines of 15 points and 13 rebounds in each contest. Carvalho matched her career high against Park with 23 before following that up with 20 points and 10 boards against the Bulldogs.
- Tuesday will mark the first of five games for Utah Valley against Big Sky Conference schools, four of which will come on the road.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Southern Utah lost both contests during two-game trip to Southern California to open the season. The T-Birds (0-2) lost a tight game at Cal State Fullerton in the closing seconds, 71-69, before an 81-65 setback at UC Irvine two days later. Madelyn Eaton is averaging 18.0 points through two games after scoring 26 against UC Irvine. SUU, which will join the WAC after this school year, leads the all-time series over UVU 15-8 with the T-Birds going 9-2 at home. The Wolverines are 1-1 in Dan Nielson's first two games of the rivalry.
COMING UP
Utah Valley will travel to Reno to face Nevada on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT. The Wolverines return home next week to host Colorado Mesa on Tuesday, Nov. 23 and Portland State on Saturday, Nov. 27.
