ABILENE, Texas—The Utah Valley University women's soccer team came up short in a 3-0 loss to Grand Canyon on Sunday afternoon in the championship match of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Elmer Gray Stadium.
Grand Canyon scored just before the half as Lindsey Prokop punched in what would prove to be the game winner with just 56 seconds to play in the first half as the Antelopes took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
The Wolverines had several opportunities in the second half with 12 shots, but just couldn't find the back of the net.
GCU scored again in the 70th minute on an empty net and then again in the 89th minute to secure a 3-0 win.
The Wolverines outshot GCU 20-14 on the day and were just edged on shots on frame, 7-6.
Sadie Brockbank led the Wolverines with four shots, including one on frame.
Nicole Ray had three shots, while
Breanna DeWaal,
Amber Tripp,
Sydney Bushman, and
Grace Beeston each had two shots.
Brockbank,
Breanna Eves, and
Amber Tripp were named to the WAC All-Tournament team.
Utah Valley wraps up its season with an impressive 13-7-2 overall record. The Wolverines won six of their final eight matches and tied a school record with 11 shutouts. UVU has now had 22 shutouts over the last two seasons.
