UVU travels to Texas to take on Tarleton for the first time

STEPHENVILLE, Texas  Utah Valley and Tarleton are set to square off in Stephenville, Texas on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20, in Wisdom Volleyball Gym. Friday's match is set for 4:00 p.m. MT, while Tuesday's contest is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. MT. Both matches will be broadcasted on the WAC Digital Network. 
 
This week's contests will mark the first ever matchups between Tarleton and Utah Valley. The matches were originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 15-16, but were postponed due to inclement weather.
 
Tarleton is from Stephenville, Texas, and joined the Western Athletic Conference this season. The Texans went 22-12 overall a season ago and 12-6 in the Lone Star Conference. TSU is in its first year at the D1 level and were picked to finished tied for sixth in the preseason WAC poll.  Tarleton swept Seattle U, 3-2 and 3-0, in Seattle, Wash. to bring its WAC record 2-4. The Texans are led by junior defensive specialist Ana Costas, senior outside hitter Amber Strange, and junior setter Kayla Brannon.
 
Utah Valley split its most recent series with California Baptist. The Wolverines dropped the first match in a five-set thriller, 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 11-15) in Riverside, Calif. in Van Dyne Gym. UVU then rallied after dropping the first set to give California Baptist its first loss of the season, 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 27-25). Kazna Tanuvasa led the comeback as she passed Lauren Bakker for fourth all-time in school history in career kills. UVU improved to 3-2 on the season, including 3-1 in WAC play as the Lancers fell to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.

Both teams were set to face each other on Jan. 25-26 but the matches were postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. Following the matchup with the Lancers, the Wolverines will travel to Stephenville, Texas to take on Tarleton State in the first-ever match between the two schools Feb. 15-16. Both matches are set to start at 5:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcasted on the WAC Digital Network.
