ORLANDO—Utah Valley freshman goalkeeper
Makiah Herrin has been invited to the Brazilian National Team Combine that takes place today in Orlando, Florida.
Herrin, who has Brazilian heritage, was invited by the team to practice with the entire National Team and head coach Pia Sundhage. The Brazilian National Team is in Florida for the #SheBelieves Cup where it already holds a 1-0 record at the event with a 4-1 win over Argentina on Thursday. The team is prepping for Sunday's match against the US National Team at Exploria Stadium.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity that Makiah has this weekend," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "She is a brave athletic goalkeeper and I'm sure she will show well. Anytime you have players in your program that are being called into the National Team camps is exciting."
Herrin, Spanish Fork, Utah, prepped at Maple Mountain High School. She recorded 10 shutouts last season in the box for the team, which led her region. She helped MMHS to the state semifinals in 2019 and earned numerous accolades, including All-Region MVP honors and multiple all-state and all-region awards. Herrin played club soccer for the Utah Storm.
The Brazilian National Team coaching staff will be evaluating Herrin, who has been on their radar over the past few years.
