ST. GEORGE, Utah — Utah Valley University wrapped up play at the Dixie State Classic and dropped its finale, 17-0, to 2nd-ranked Washington on Sunday at the Canyons Softball Complex.
The Wolverines (3-2) ran into All-American pitcher Gabbie Plain and a Washington (9-1) offense that finished with 17 hits and scored in every inning.
Plain struck out 10 of the 14 batters she faced, with
Jade Miller's one-out triple in the first going as UVU's only hit of the day. Kelley Lynch and Jadelyn Allchiin both went 4-for-4 for the Huskies, with Allchin homering twice and driving in six runs.
Up next for the Wolverines is a three-game series against in-state rival Southern Utah at Archie Gubler Park in Santa Clara, Utah. The teams will play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. MT and a Saturday twin bill set for noon MT.
