UTAH VALLEY TRAVELS TO PROVO TO TAKE ON BYU IN UCCU CROSSTOWN CLASH
Utah Valley continues play this week as the team travels down University Parkway to take on crosstown rival BYU on Wednesday afternoon at South Field in Provo. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
The Wolverines head into this week's matches after going 0-1-1 in a two-game set against WAC foe California Baptist at home last week. UVU opened its series against CBU with a 2-1 setback at Clyde Field with
Julianna Carter scoring the goal in the loss. The Wolverines then played the Lancers to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Saturday in tough weather conditions at the Geneva turf field in Vineyard.
Through 11 matches this season, Brockbank and Carter share the scoring lead the Wolverines with four goals each. Brockbank leads the team with 47 shots, including a team-best 29 on frame. Tripp has three goals, while Ray and
Anna Pickering each have two.
Heather Stainbrook and
Sydney Bushman also have a goal this season. Stainbrook ranks second on the team in total shots with 26, followed by Tripp with 23 and
London Miller with 19. Stainbrook, Brockbank,
Nicole Ray, and
Cassidy McCormick each have two assists.
Isabel Jones-Dawe leads the team in the box with a 5-3-1 record. She has recorded 19 saves and owns an .760 save percentage.
ABOUT BYU
BYU enters Wednesday's match against the Wolverines with a 4-3-0 overall record. The Cougars most recently dropped a 2-1 decision to Santa Clara on Saturday at South Field. Senior midfielder Mikayla Colohan scored the lone goal for BYU in the loss to Santa Clara. Prior to the loss to Santa Clara, BYU had won three straight with wins over San Francisco, Missouri, and Loyola Marymount. The Cougars hold a 1-1 record at home this season with the loss to Santa Clara at South Field and the win over San Francisco at the Zions Bank Training Center in Herriman. Sophomore forward/midfielder Bella Folino and Colohan lead the Cougars in scoring with five goals apiece. Sophomore midfielder Rachel McCarthy and senior forward Cameron Tucker have helped with three goals each. Senior keeper Cassidy Smith has led BYU in the box, allowing 11 goals with 31 saves.
ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY VS. BYU
Utah Valley and BYU meet up on the pitch for the sixth time on Wednesday. BYU holds an all-time 5-0 advantage in the series. It marks the fifth time that the two teams have met up on the South Field pitch with BYU winning all five of those matches. Last season (2019), the two teams played in Orem at Clyde Field for the first time with the Cougars edging UVU for the win, 1-0. Three of the five matches between the two teams have been 1-0 decisions in BYU's favor.
