EDINBURG, Texas – The Wolverines won three-straight sets to dispatch UTRGV, 3-1 (15-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21) on the road in UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Seren Jardine passed Allyce Jones for second in UVU history in career digs and now sits just 16 digs away from the all-time school record. With the win, UVU improves to 10-4 on the season, including 10-3 in WAC play. The Vaqueros fall to 2-11 on the year and 2-9 in conference play.
"It wasn't the best match statistically today but I was proud of the team for playing through it," said Utah Valley head volleyball coach
Sam Atoa. "We will need to do a better job taking care of the ball and when we do, we do good things."

The Vaqueros came out hot, scoring six of the first seven points of the match as UTRGV took an early 6-1 lead. UVU chipped away at the lead, trimming the deficit down to 12-11, but UT Rio Grande Valley countered with an 11-2 run to put the set out of reach, 23-13. UVU was unable to challenge from there as the Vaqueros took the opening set, 25-15.

Kristen Bell led the Wolverines to early lead in the second set, 6-4. UTRGV used a 5-1 run to take the lead, 9-7, but UVU countered with a 4-1 run of its own to retake the lead 11-10. With the Vaqueros up 14-13, the Wolverines ripped off a 9-1 run to take control of the set, 22-15. UVU scored the final three points of the set to take the second set, 25-17, to tie up the match at 1-1.

UVU fell behind early in the third set as the Vaqueros raced out to a 10-4 lead. The Wolverines used a balanced attack to storm back, ripping off a 13-2 run to retake the lead, 17-12. UTRGV battled back with a 9-3 run to take the lead at 21-20. After both teams exchanged points, UVU scored the final three points of the set to take the third set, 25-23, to take a 2-1 lead.

Both teams battled back forth as UVU took an early 5-4 lead in the final set. The Vaqueros scored the next five points to push its leads out to 9-5. With UTRGV up 12-8, the Wolverines struck back with 10-3 surge to retake the lead, 18-15. UT Rio Grande Valley cut the lead down to 21-20 but Utah Valley scored four of the final five points to take the final set, 25-21, and finish off the win, 3-1.

Jardine finished with 18 digs to lead the Wolverines.
Jaysa Funk Stratton finished the night with a team-high 32 helpers to go along with 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
Kazna Tanuvasa led UVU with 15 kills to go along with four digs and four blocks.
Kristen Bell added 13 kills and six digs while
Kendra Nock chipped in seven blocks and
Sadie Hamson finished with six blocks.
Abbie Miller collected 12 assists and six digs and
Bryton Bishop collected with ten digs.

The Wolverines continue in Edinburg, Texas, taking on UTRGV on Tuesday, March 16. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. MT. UVU then returns home for its final series of the regular season, hosting Grand Canyon on Monday and Tuesday, March 22-23, in Lockhart Arena.
