Wolverines travel to Montana for weekend series

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University will have its final tune up prior to the start of WAC play next week with a three-game weekend series at Montana and a midweek doubleheader at Utah.

The Wolverines (8-11) will play a doubleheader at Montana on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT before wrapping up the series against the Grizzlies on Sunday at noon MT.  UVU will also face the Utes in Salt Lake City on Tuesday starting at 1 p.m. MT.

UVU opened its home schedule this week, splitting a pair of twin bills against Big Sky Conference schools. The Wolverines split with both Idaho State and Weber State in a pair of midweek doubleheaders, winning the second game of both series.

In the win over Idaho State, Peyton Prigge delivered a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh to avoid a sweep. The Bengals scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but UVU loaded the bases with nobody out for Prigge, who also homered in the win.

Against Weber State, Utah Valley was shut out 3-0 in the opener before Devyn Cretz returned the favor and blanked the Wildcats in a 5-0 win. She struck out eight, matching her career high. Kyla Hardy had a two-run double during a four-run first and Rien Milliken went 2-for-2 with a home run.

ON DECK
Following Tuesday's games, the Wolverines are set to head to Phoenix for a three-game WAC series at Grand Canyon beginning Friday, March 26.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Montana (6-15) hosted Montana for three games on Thursday and Friday and won the finale, 7-6, on Friday. The Grizzlies and Wolverines met earlier this season in UVU's season opener in St. George. Utah Valley scored twice in the top of the seventh to earn a 4-3 win. Utah is opening Pac 12 play this weekend with a four-game series at No. 4 Oregon in Eugene. The Utes are 9-5 entering the weekend, with four of their five losses coming against ranked opponents.
