SALT LAKE CITY — Utah edged Utah Valley, 2-1, in the night cap of a doubleheader to sweep the Tuesday twin bill at Ute Field. The Utes (10-9) won the opener, 10-2, in six innings.
Devyn Cretz went the distance but took the tough-luck loss in game two for UVU. She struck out four while
Peyton Prigge homered for the Wolverines' (11-13) lone run to give UVU a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Utah got an RBI single from Alyssa Barrera in the fourth to tie the game, and a solo home run from Katie Faulk that went as the game-winner in the fifth.
Kyla Hardy led off the seventh with a base hit for UVU, and was eventually at third with two down but was stranded there to end the game.
In the opener,
Siena Sandoval was 2-for-3 and drove in both runs for the Wolverines. After
Linnah Rebolledo doubled in the fourth, Sandoval followed with a double of her own to get UVU on the board.
Rebolledo doubled again in the sixth and scored on a base hit to center by Sandoval. Rebolledo was also 2-for-3 and scored both runs. Barrera was 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored for Utah.
The Wolverines are now set to open WAC play this weekend at Grand Canyon beginning with a Friday doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. MT.
