UVU, NMSU to square off in Orem in battle of top two teams

OREM – The Wolverines return home to take on WAC-leading New Mexico State in Lockhart Arena on March 8-9. The Aggies are 10-0 on the year, including 10-0 in WAC play. Monday's match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. MT while Tuesday's match is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. MT.

New Mexico State is from Las Cruces, New Mexico, and calls the Western Athletic Conference home. The Aggies went 27-4 overall a season ago and 16-0 in WAC play. A season ago, NMSU qualified for the NCAA tournament after winning the WAC tournament, falling to BYU, 3-0, in the opening round. The Aggies were picked to win the conference in the preseason WAC poll. The Aggies are led by preseason WAC Player of the Year and first-team All-WAC junior outside hitter Savannah Davison and junior middle blocker Lia Mosher.

The Wolverines and Trailblazers have met 16 times with UVU holding a 3-13 record, including a 3-5 re- cord at home. The Aggies have won the last four contests, including 3-0 sweep of the Wolverines in the WAC semifinals a year ago. UVU last defeated NMSU on Nov. 3, 2018 in Orem in a five-set thriller, 3-2.

The Wolverines swept last week's series with WAC-newcomer, Dixie State, on the road Burns Arena, to take the Old Hammer Rivalry. UVU rallied behind Seren Jardine's career-high 37 digs to take the first match over the Trailblazers, 3-2. In the rematch, the Wolverines swept DSU, 3-0, behind a balanced attack. UVU set a season-high in hitting percentage with a .304 clip as Kristen Bell and Jaysa Funk Stratton both flirted with double-doubles.

The Wolverines then hit the road for its final road trip of the season, taking on WAC-foe UT Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas on March 15-16. The Vaqueros are 1-9 on the year, including 1-7 in WAC play. Monday's match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. MT while Tuesday's match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. MT. UVU will alternate road and home matches throughout the conference season and contests will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays. The following week, Utah Valley returns home for its final home stand of the season, hosting on WAC-foe Grand Canyon in Lockhart Arena on March 22-23.
