Wolverines climb the record books at BYU and Oregon

Provo, Utah – The UVU men's and women's track and field team traveled to instate rival BYU and Oregon for the BYU Robison Invitational and the Oregon Relays. The Wolverines rewrote the record books in Provo with 12 finishes ranking in the top 10 for their events. UVU also set nine new personal records in Eugene, including Hannah Branch setting a new school record in the 5000m.
 
"We had some huge movements in the record books and some great PRs with the two meets this week," said Utah Valley head track and field coach Scott Houle. "The meets were really good with some great competition and Hannah Branch just shattered our school record in the 5000m while moving up into the top 40 in the country."
 
At the Oregon Relays, Hannah Branch set a new UVU record in the 5000m with a time of 16:14.10. Mazzie Melaney and Maddie Empey each set new PRs in the 5000m, finishing the race in 16:43.95 and 16:50.15, respectively. In the 1500m, Taylor Viertel finished with a new PR of 4:26.31, Kelsey Creese set a personal best with 4:31.97, and Haley Odekirk set a new personal record of 4:35.97. In the men's 5000m, Tyson Green set a new personal best while just missing out on the school record with a time of 14:04.65, Britain Reynolds set a new personal record with 14:14.22, and Geofrey Kemboi set a new PR with a time of 14:21.46.
 
At the BYU Robison Invitational, on the women's team, Secret McEuen moved into seventh in the 100m, clocking in with a time of 11.96. Emma Aldred finished the 100H with a time 14.50, good enough for ninth in school history. Julia Hunt moved into a tie for tenth in the 100m, finishing with a time of 12.14. Maezzi Mund climbed up to third in UVU history in the shot put with a throw of 13.83m. The women's 4x100 relay team moved into eighth in school history with a time of 46.19.
 
On the men's side, Zane Farrer moved into second all time in the 110H, finishing with a time of 14.09. Farrer also jumped to sixth all time in the 400H with a time of 52.99. Caleb Furnell climbed to second in school history in the 200m, clocking in at 20.94. The men's 4x100 relay team finished with a time of 40.89, tying for tenth in UVU history. Austin Kleinman used his throw of 53.32 to climb up to fourth all time in the hammer. Kyle Routsong moved into seventh in the hammer with a throw of 49.42 and Josh Clark now sits in eighth in school history in the hammer with a distance of 48.86.
 
The Wolverines continue on the road as Utah Valley heads Weber State for the Weber State Twilight Invitational. The meet is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, May 3-4, in Ogden, Utah. It is anticipated that more meets may be added to the indoor portion of the schedule and will be updated on GoUVU.com.
