OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University will host California Baptist in the final game of the Spring 2021 season on Friday night at 7 p.m. MT on Clyde Field.
The Wolverines (3-3-0, 2-3-0) are coming off of a 2-1 win at Houston Baptist on Monday, but saw their hopes at making next week's WAC Tournament dashed with Air Force's win over CBU. That result, combined with UVU being unable to schedule a make up of a prior postponed contest, made it impossible for the Wolverines to surpass the Falcons in the standings.
"I was thrilled with our boys' reactions after Monday's win on the road. We got home and hit the ground running at the next training", said Interim Head Coach Michael Chesler. "One of the things we spoke about last week was the work and competitiveness that was going to be expected in training every day. We talked about how that must be the standard every training in order for us to get better. The guys have taken that to heart and put together one of the most intense and competitive training sessions this season. They can't wait to get on Clyde field and play in front of our 12th Wolverines."
In the win at HBU, Aaron Nixon's toe poke in the 72nd minute broke a scoreless tie, and Carter Johnson gave the Wolverines an important insurance goal just over two minutes later. Alejandro Silva assisted on both goals.
The Huskies scored on a PK in the 80th minute but their attempts at a late equalizer were thwarted by goalkeeper Joseph Wheelwright and the Wolverine back line.
