Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Utah Valley picks up 3-0 shutout win over unbeaten Boise State

OREMHeather Stainbrook scored the game winner and Sadie Brockbank recorded a brace with a pair of goals to help lift the Utah Valley women's soccer team to a 3-0 shutout win over Boise State on Friday evening at Clyde Field.

"I thought it was a complete performance tonight," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "We were playing against a team that had not lost a game and that hadn't conceded a goal. They had one of the top RPIs in the country. We knew it was going to be a challenge and our players were up for it tonight. I'm very proud of the team and am very happy with the way they came out and played and certainly the shutout is nice."

Utah Valley (5-2-0) got on the scoreboard in the ninth minute after Jenna Shepherd stole the ball from a BSU and passed it down the field to Amber Tripp. Tripp then led Heather Stainbrook with a pass on the right side toward the goal. Stainbrook then fired a shot with her right foot past the keeper on the right side for the score to give UVU a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first goal scored on Boise State (5-1-0) this season.

Sadie Brockbank gave Utah Valley a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute after she crossed over her defender two times and then connected on a low shot to the near post for the score.

Utah Valley extended its lead in the 68th minute as Julianna Carter sent a ball into the box from the right side to Stainbrook in the box. Stainbrook then dropped it off to Brockbank who sent the ball into the net to give the Wolverines a 3-0 advantage.

Utah Valley outshot the Broncos 12-4 on the night, including a 4-2 advantage on frame. Brockbank led the Wolverines with three shots, including the two on frame. Stainbrook, Tripp, and Bushman each had two.

The UVU defense picks up its fourth shutout win of the season. Brooklyn Nielsen registered her fifth win of the season in the box, while collecting two saves.

Utah Valley now heads out on the road to wrap up non-conference play against Oklahoma on Sept. 16 and at Alabama on Sept. 19. The Wolverines will then return to Orem to open WAC play against Grand Canyon on Sept. 23.
