SPRINGVILLE, Utah – Utah Valley University women's golf is tied for eighth out of 17 teams after two rounds of play at the season-opening Hobble Creek Fall Classic with a 36-over-par 604. Senior Bailey Henley is leading the way for the Wolverines, as she currently sits in a tie for 15th place at 5-over-par. 
 
After opening her senior season with the best round of the day for UVU on Monday morning with an opening-round even-par 71, Henley then followed that up with a 5-over-par 76 in round two to sit in a tie for 15th-place out of 100 competitors with a 36-hole tally of 5-over 147. During her strong opening day of golf in 2021-22, Henley reeled off an impressive streak of four consecutive birdies during Monday's first round by birdying holes 18, 1, 2 and 3. She then followed that up with two more birdies in round two for a total of six birdies on the day. 
 
Playing the field as an individual, sophomore Lauren Taylor finished right behind Henley as she sits in a tie for 17th at 6-over-par (148). Taylor carded 75 and 73 on her way to recording the 6-over 148 on Monday.

"Wow, what a great day. Hobble Creek and staff set us up for one beautiful day! Thanks to our Wolverine family and ALL the sports teams, coaches, and administrators that came out today. Their energy was matchless and motivating," head UVU coach Juli Erekson said. "I'm proud of our composure, attitude, and ability to bounce back during rounds. We need to have patience on the greens and build on the good as we look to finish strong tomorrow (Tuesday)."
 
In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Leighton Shosted also had a strong opening day for UVU, as she too sits in the top-25. Shosted will enter Tuesday's final round tied for 24th with an 8-over-par 150 (75-75). Reigning first team All-WAC selection Victoria Estrada is next for the Wolverines, as she sits in sits in a tie for 37th at 11-over-par (76-77—153). Sophomore Macy Robertson Murphy follows in 43rd at 12-over (77-77—154), while Makenzie McMillen is tied for 92nd (83-82—165). Sophomores Caylyn Ponich and Anna Lesa too are taking part in the event—both as individuals—and Ponich leads the way in 43rd place (77-77—154) while Lesa follows in 49th (82-73—155). During Lesa's solid second round, the Wolverine sophomore carded UVU's lone eagle of the day as well as a pair of birdies.
 
As a team, UVU is tied for eighth with Northern Colorado with a 36-over 604 (299-305). The Wolverines currently find themselves ahead of in-state foes Southern Utah (607) and Dixie State (621), as well as CSUN (622), Montana State (624), Portland State (629), UT Rio Grande Valley (635), Idaho State (635) and CSU Bakersfield (638). Gonzaga will enter Tuesday's final round in first place with a 10-over-par 585 (291-294), followed by Boise State (589), Cal Poly (590), Weber State (593), Northern Arizona (600), Wyoming (601) and Seattle U (602).
 
Gonzaga's Chaewon Baek is leading the field with an even-par 142 (70-72). 
 
The Hobble Creek Fall Classic will conclude on Tuesday. The third and final round will get underway at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring can be followed by visiting GolfStat.com.
