UTAH VALLEY TRAVELS TO PLAY UTAH STATE, HOSTS SAN JOSE STATE
Utah Valley will travel up I-15 to Logan this week to take on in-state rival Utah State on Friday evening at Chuck & Gloria Bell Soccer Field. Friday's match in Cache Valley will kickoff at 5 p.m. The Wolverines will then return to Orem to continue play against Mountain West competition as the team hosts San Jose State on Monday at noon.
Utah Valley went 2-1-0 last week with wins over Northern Arizona and Weber State. The Wolverines defeated NAU in overtime 2-1 at home before traveling to Ogden to defeat Weber State, 3-0. UVU then returned home and dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 25 USC.
Jenna Shepherd scored the game winner in overtime in the win over NAU, while
Heather Stainbrook scored the game winner in the first half at Weber State.
Stainbrook scored a pair of goals over UVU's three matches last week and leads the Wolverines in goals (3), shots on goal (8), and points (6). She is tied with
Sadie Brockbank for the team high in shots with 15.
Nicole Ray scored in the loss to USC and now has two goals. Four other Wolverines, including Brockbank,
Amber Tripp,
Breanna Eves, and
Jenna Shepherd each have one goal.
Brooklyn Nielsen has played all four games in the box for the Wolverines, recording a 3-1-0 record with four saves and a pair of shutouts.

ABOUT UTAH STATE
Utah State is 3-0-1 on the season against Big Sky Conference competition after following up a season-opening 0-0 tie at Idaho State on Aug. 19 with three straight wins over Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, and Weber State. Imelda Williams leads the Aggies with two goals, both game winners. Three other Aggies have a goal, including Ashley Cardozo, Kami Warner, and Sammie Murdock. Utah State has allowed only one goal this season, which came in its 2-1 win over Northern Arizona on Aug. 21. USU keeper Diera Walton has played all 380 minutes in the box, allowing just the one goal with 13 saves and three wins, and three shutouts. Utah State is under a new head coach this season in Manny Martins. He is assisted by former Wolverine Jessica (Duffin) Evanson.
SERIES HISTORY VS. UTAH STATE
Utah Valley and Utah State will meet on the pitch for the eighth time on Friday night. Utah State holds an all-time 5-2-0 advantage in the series. The Wolverines won the last meeting between the two teams, taking a 1-0 win in Orem on Aug. 28, 2015. UVU's only other win in the series was a 2-1 win in Logan on Oct. 6, 2006. Friday's game will be the fifth game played in Logan where USU holds a 3-1-0 record against UVU.
ABOUT SAN JOSE STATE
San Jose State is 1-2-0 on the season with a 3-0 road loss to defending national champion Santa Clara and a 2-0 setback at home to San Francisco. The Spartans then defeated UC Santa Barbara at home on Aug. 29, 3-1. Three different Spartans scored a goal in the win over UCSB, including Evan House, Kiana Miyazato, and Taylor Phillips. House and Miyazato lead the team with three shots apiece this season. Shayla Sugai leads the team in the box with 14 saves and a 1-1-0 record.
SERIES HISTORY VS. SAN JOSE STATE
Utah Valley and San Jose State will meet up on the pitch for just the second time on Monday. The Spartans took a 1-0 overtime win in the only meeting between the two teams on Sept. 6, 2019. Monday's match marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools in Orem.

UVU fell one spot to No. 8 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Association Pacific Region Top-10 Poll. The Wolverines went 2-1 last week with a pair of wins over Big Sky favorite Northern Arizona and in-state rival Weber State.
UVU OPENS SEASON WITH 3-0 RECORD FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2008
Utah Valley opened the 2021 season with a 3-0 record with wins over Arizona, Northern Arizona, and Weber State. It marks the first time since the 2008 season that the Wolverines have opened the season with a 3-0-0 record. In 2008, UVU opened the season three-straight wins over North Dakota, Northern Colorado, and Texas State. The 3-0 record to open the season matches the 2008 team for the best start to a season in school history.

Utah Valley holds an impressive 86-40-12 (.672) all time record at Clyde Field. The team has lost just nine matches (two to nationally-ranked teams) over the past five seasons on the home pitch. UVU ranked ninth in the nation in attendance in 2019 as the Wolverines averaged 1,319 fans per game at Clyde Field. UVU held a six-match unbeaten streak at Clyde Field before its loss to No. 25 USC on Aug. 28 of this season.
