OREM—Utah Valley played Grand Canyon to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Thursday in the team's Western Athletic Conference opener at Clyde Field.
 
"I thought it was a good match and I was happy with our possession," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "I was happy with the chances that we created. We just need to be a little more accurate in the opportunities that we had. We're going to focus on our recovery and look forward to landing it at home against New Mexico State on Saturday."
 
The Utah Valley defense picks up its fifth shutout of the season in the draw. Brooklyn Nielsen led the Wolverines in the box with five saves, including a game-saving stop with 2:45 remaining in the final overtime period.
 
Grand Canyon outshot Utah Valley 15-12, including a 5-2 advantage on frame. Heather Stainbrook and Sadie Brockbank led UVU with three shots each. Nicole Ray recorded two shots, while Amber Tripp, Katie Haskins, Julianna Carter, and Hannah Harrison each had one.
 
Utah Valley continues WAC play at home on Saturday against New Mexico State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
