UVU travels to Northwestern and Bradley

WOLVERINES TRAVEL TO ILLINOIS FOR PAIR OF CONTESTS
Utah Valley University heads to Illinois for its final two non-conference road games, starting Thursday at Northwestern at 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT. UVU rounds out the trip on Sunday at Bradley with a 1 p.m. CT/noon MT kick. The game at Northwestern will air on the Big Ten Network+ while the weekend finale can be seen on ESPN3.

The Wolverines (2-0-1) have won two straight and are ranked No. 8 in Tuesday's latest United Soccer Coaches Far West Region Poll.

LAST TIME OUT
UVU opened up Kyle Beckerman's home era with a commanding 5-1 win over CSUN, with four different players scoring goals. The five goals matches the single-game record in the program's seven-plus seasons and is the identical score from the inaugural game against UMass in 2014.

Carter Johnson started the scoring in the 13th minute before Aaron Nixon scored the first of two goals on the day. In the 22nd minute he delivered on a bicycle kick that ended up as the game-winner and also landed him in the No. 2  spot on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays later that night. Nixon added his second goal just before half and UVU led 3-0 at the break.

After CSUN got a goal in the 50th minute, the Wolverines extended the lead with a 55th minute goal from Diego Castillo and less than two minutes later on a Jojea Kwizera goal that was assisted by Nixon. Caleb Wight, Kwizera, Alejandro Silva, Johnson, and Erik Lyons all assisted on goals during the contest.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Northwestern, which marks the first Big Ten opponent UVU will face, is coming off of a 4-1 win over former WAC school Kansas City on Monday. The Wildcats are 2-1-1 with the lone loss coming to a WAC school, Chicago State, on Aug. 26. Northwestern played Illinois Chicago to a scoreless draw and defeated Loyola Chicago 1-0.

Bradley is 1-2-0 entering a Friday contest at home against DePaul. The Braves fell 1-0 at Oral Roberts on Monday, with the lone win so far coming at home against Omaha, 1-0. Sunday will mark the third time UVU and Bradley have met, with the Wolverines winning both prior contests, coming back in 2015 and 2016.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines are set to host No. 3 Washington next Thursday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. MT at Clyde Field. Should the Huskies remain the third-ranked team or higher entering next week's match, it would mark the highest-ranked opponent in program history for the Wolverines. The current high is No. 4 UC Irvine during the team's inaugural 2014 season.
