POCATELLO, Utah - The Utah Valley men's and women's track and field teams set five new school records to go along with several other top-10 school records at the Stacy Dragila Invitational.
Aaron Johnson moved into 20th in the country in the long jump and 25th in the 60m, while
Taylor Viertel and
Everlyn Kemboi each set school records.
"It was a really good race with some great competition," said Utah Valley head track and field coach
Scott Houle. "
Aaron Johnson set a school record in the long jump and continues to move himself into the national rankings as one of the best jumpers in the country. On the distance side, we had three school records and we had a few others that were right there as well. Overall, we had a really good meet and I'm excited about how things went."
Johnson cleared a distance of 7.67m in the long jump, setting a school record and climbing to 20th in the country. Johnson also won the 60m dash, finishing with a time of 6.81 and moving into 25th in the nation.
Josh Clark moved to number four all-time in the shot put at 15.38m and
Andrew Smith climbed into eighth all-time in the shot put with a distance of 14.78m.
Kemboi shattered the school record in the 3000m, winning the event with a time of 9:35.84.
Hannah Branch and
Mazzie Melaney took second and third in the 3000m, clocking in with times of 9:36.17 and 9:45.88, respectively. Viertel set the school record in the mile, taking second in the event with a time of 4:51.25. Larisssa Dabb won the 400m, finishing with a time of 57.48 while
Krista Farley took first in the long jump with a distance of 5.32m.
Maddy Beyeler moved into seventh in the weight throw with a PR of 15.47m.
The Wolverines travel for a pair of meets at Weber State and New Mexico on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5. UVU then returns to Idaho State for the Mountain States Games on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12.
