STEPHENVILLE, Texas—
Heather Stainbrook recorded her second straight brace to lead the Utah Valley women's soccer team to a 6-1 win over Tarleton on Sunday afternoon at the Tarleton Soccer Complex.
Utah Valley improves to 11-3-3 overall and 7-1-1 in WAC play. Tarleton falls to 4-9-3 overall and 0-7-2 in league play.
"We're happy to finish off the weekend with a strong positive result today," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "We brought 20 players on this trip and all 20 contributed this weekend. We're happy to be coming home with six points and are excited for our final two conference matches at home this next week."
Stainbrook put the Wolverines on the scoreboard in the 11th minute after
Nicole Olanda sent a shot from 25 yards out that bounced off the crossbar to
Faith Webber who sent the ball with her left foot to an open Stainbrook on the right side. Stainbrook then sent into the goal with her right foot for the score.
Utah Valley took a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute as
Ashley Hughes sent a cross into the box from the left side of the box to Webber who headed it into the goal. Utah Valley went into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
Julianna Carter gave the Wolverines a 3-0 lead in the 55th minute as she sent a ball up the middle to Webber who then sent it right back to Carter in the box. Carter then fired a shot past the Tarleton keeper to the right side of the goal for the score.
Stainbrook secured her brace after
Hannah Lee sent a nice lead pass inside the box where Stainbrook then sent a ball with her left foot into the net to give the Wolverines a 4-0 lead in the 63rd minute. The goal is the 10th of the season for Stainbrook.
Haley Richardson found a loose ball inside the box and poked it in to give the Wolverines the 6-0 lead in the 86th minute.
Tarleton got on the scoreboard in the final minute as Mila Bettinelli headed in a shot to cut the UVU lead to a 5-1 advantage.
Megan Sullivan sent a long ball into the box in the final 10 seconds of the match and
Madeline Moore got a foot on it and scored to secure the Wolverines the 6-1 win in the 89th minute.
Utah Valley outshot Tarleton 28-4 on the day, including a 14-3 advantage on frame. The Wolverines and Texans each had a pair of corner kicks. Stainbrook and Webber led UVU with seven shots apiece. Webber led the Wolverines with five shots on frame.
Leah Wolf picked up the win in the box, playing nearly 70 minutes with one save.
Utah Valley now preps for its final two WAC regular season matches of the season against Southern Utah and Utah Tech on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Both matches are set to begin at 6 p.m.
