Utah Valley drops 3-0 decision at Seattle U

SEATTLE—Despite outshooting Seattle U 14-9 on the night, Utah Valley couldn't find the back of the net in a 3-0 loss to the Redhawks on Saturday night at Championship Field.

With the loss, Utah Valley falls to 7-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in WAC play. The Redhawks improve to 6-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.

"I thought our team came out and played well for 90 minutes and we won't put our heads down after the way we played tonight," said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. "Give credit to Seattle. They had a good game plan and were potent in counter-attack moments. If we play at the level we did tonight, we will win a lot more games than we'll lose. I'm unhappy with the result but not unhappy with our performance."

Seattle U got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute as U'i Kaaihue found the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Utah Valley was fouled in the box and had an opportunity to tie things up in the 38th minute but SU's keeper made a save to keep the Wolverines out of the goal.

The Redhawks went up 2-0 as Taylor Marks sent a shot from inside the box to the bottom right side of the goal. UVU moved its defense up to try and find a goal in the final minutes and the Redhawks took advantage on a counter-attack as Kaylee Coatney scored in the 89th minute to secure the 3-0 result.

Utah Valley outshot Seattle U 14-9 on the night. The two teams each had five shots on frame. The Wolverines had 10 corner kicks to SU's three. Faith Webber, Hannah Lee, and Taylor Nelson led UVU with three shots apiece. Heather Stainbrook had two shots.

Idalia Serrano played all 90 minutes in the box with a pair of saves.

Utah Valley returns to Orem to host UTRGV on Thursday, Oct. 13 and Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Oct. 15. Thursday's match against the Vaqueros will begin at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday's match against the Ladyjacks will start at 6 p.m.
