RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University defeated Utah Valley University 3-1 (27-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-20) on Thursday night inside Van Dyne Gym in Riverside. CBU (11-13, 6-7) used seven service aces to hold the momentum as UVU (16-9, 10-3) could not rally after down, despite 35 CBU errors in the match.

Utah Valley used a 4-0 run in the opening set to bring the set to an 11-11 tie after two of CBU's 35 errors in the match, along with kills from Dorius and Shewell. The Lancers responded later with a 4-1 run to go up 18-15. The Wolverines and Lancers traded points until UVU had match point at 25-24 when CBU rallied with three straight points to win the opening set.

The Lancers started to pull away and went up 23-17 until UVU responded with a 5-0 run in part due to three CBU errors to make it 23-21 CBU. The Lancers scored the next point before Caleigh Vagana had a kill and a CBU error made it 24-23. Christine Graff had one of her match-high 15 kills to close out the set for CBU.

The Wolverines got off to a quick start in the third set and led 5-2 with three Dorius kills and a kill from Kazna Tanuvasa. Makayla Broadbent had back-to-back kills later to go up 11-5. A 4-0 run with two kills from Hailey Cuff and a pair of Abbie Miller service aces put UVU ahead 16-7. The Wolverines put the set away with four errors from CBU and a kill from Cuff.

The Lancers used an 8-2 lead to pull away from UVU in the fourth set. Utah Valley used a 4-0 run early in the set to get back to 9-6 after a kill from Kalea Kennedy. The Wolverines climbed within one at 11-10 before CBU scored eight of the next ten points to take control of the set.
