SALT LAKE CITY — After securing a win in its season opener, Utah Valley struggled on Friday and fell at Utah, 97-27, at the Huntsman Center. The road swing continues for UVU with games next week at UNLV (Nov. 16) and at Weber State (Nov. 19).
The Wolverines (1-1) scored first, on a bucket from
Jaeden Brown, but the Utes (2-0) ran off 20 straight points to put the game out of reach early. Brown hit a 3-pointer to make the score 20-5 and end a drought of over eight minutes for UVU. Utah led 25-5 after one behind 8-for-13 shooting including 4-for-7 from three, while also forcing 12 turnovers that led to 21 of the 25 points.
Brown and
Eleyana Tafisi led Utah Valley with seven points each while Kennady McQueen led all scorers with 15 points, all coming on shots from three. The Utes were 11-for-24 in the contest from beyond the arc. Overall, Utah converted on 55% shooting from the field while UVU hit just 24.4% and was plagued by 32 turnovers. UVU was also whistled for 31 fouls with three different players fouling out in the contest.
Next week's contest at UNLV is set for a 4:30 p.m. PT time tipoff.
