BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Utah Valley University had six wrestlers place at the Roadrunner Open on Sunday at the Icardo Center, led by second-place finishes from Cameron Haddock (165) and Caleb Uhlenhopp (174). Kainalu Estrella (141), Isaiah Delgado (149), and Evan Bockman (197) all finished third while Danny Snediker (165) took home a fifth-place finish.
"It was a nice day of competition. We were able to have our guys see some good competition. We had great performances from our freshmen today against tough competition," said UVU head coach Greg Williams.
Uhlenhopp started his day with a 6-2 decision over Nathan Tausch (Cal Poly) before defeating Thomas Tolbert (New Mexico Highlands), 7-0. In the quarterfinals, the freshman edged Louis Rojas (California Baptist), 4-3, before another close bout went his away against Maximus Zamora (Menlo), 2-1, to advance to the final. Uhlenhopp dropped a tightly contested 4-3 decision to Mason Reiniche (Oregon State) in the championship and finished 4-1 on the day.
Estrella finished (5-1) after winning four straight matches in the consolation bracket to earn third. After defeating Chase DeBlaere (Oregon State) in a 9-3 decision in the opener, he lost in the quarterfinals to No. 31 Angelo Martinoni (CSU Bakersfield) by fall (2:16). Estrella was dominant in picking up wins over Kasius Graham (Menlo) and Andre Dargani (San Francisco State). He pinned Graham in just 35 seconds before a 19-3 tech fall over Dargani. In the consolation semifinal, Estrella beat Isaac Salas (CSU Bakersfield) before an 11-4 win over Nash Singleton (Oregon State) in the third-place bout.
After picking up a win by injury default in his first scheduled match, No. 33 Delgado shutout Christophe Gaxiola (Menlo) in an 8-0 major decision to advance to the semifinals. Delgado dropped his semifinal match 6-2 to No. 32 Anthony White (Rutgers) before winning in the consolation round over Noah Tolentino (Oregon State), 7-0. He earned the third-place finish with a no-contest Chaz Hallmark (California Baptist).
Bockman, who is ranked No. 31 at 197, began his day with a major decision over Kyle Epperly (Rutgers), 12-4. Bockman won in the quarterfinals by a 6-1 decision over Caden Gerlach (California Baptist) to advance to the semifinals before falling to No. 1 seed and No. 22 Tanner Harvey (Oregon State) in an 8-4 decision. He bounced back in the consolation bracket, picking up a pin in just 34 seconds against Zach Ferris (New Mexico Highlands) before a no-contest was declared in a rematch against Gerlach (California Baptist).
Haddock defeated Connor Cormier (MWC) in his first match in a 4-3 decision. In the quarterfinals, he got past Keller Rock (Embry-Riddle), 12-4, and followed that up with a 5-1 win over Connor O'Neill (Rutgers) to advance to the finals. He dropped the championship match to No. 30 Matthew Olguin (Oregon State) in a 19-3 tech fall.
Snediker picked up a fall over Colin Brown (New Mexico Highlands) in his opener and advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Mateo De La Pena (California Baptist) in a 7-5 decision. In the quarterfinal, Rutgers' O'Neill pinned Snediker (1:16) to push the Wolverines into the consolation bracket. Snediker earned a decisive 13-0 major decision over Cole Zoller (Oregon State) before falling to Cash Stewart (Cal Poly) in the consolation semifinal by fall (6:16). The fifth-place match was declared a no-contest against Augustine Garcia (CSU Bakersfield).

Utah Valley will next compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. The Invitational will be held on Dec. 2-3.
