SEATTLE--Despite outshooting the Aggies 18-8 and dominating possession of the match Utah Valley couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to New Mexico State in the championship match of the WAC Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Championship Field in Seattle.
The Wolverines fall to 14-4-3 overall on the season and now await a possible at-large bid into the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The selection show is set for Monday at 2 p.m. (MT) on NCAA.com.
UVU has a strong resume with an RPI in the top-40 and a school-record 13 wins. The Wolverines won the WAC regular season title with a 9-1-1 record. UVU also has a win over 15th-ranked BYU and a tie against No. 20 UCF. Utah Valley also ranks in the top five nationally in numerous offensive categories, including goals scored, points tallied, and assists.
New Mexico State's Tati Jerman scored the game's lone goal in the 44th minute.
Utah Valley rallied in the second half with nine shots to NM State's two. The Wolverines had numerous opportunities but just couldn't get the ball across the line.
Faith Webber and
Heather Stainbrook each tallied a match-high five shots. Webber led team with a match-high three shots on frame.
Hannah Lee had three shots, while
Jenna Shepherd had two.
Ashley Hughes,
Pyper Vance, and
Kathryn Wynn also had a shot. UVU outshot the Aggies 6-2 on frame.
Utah Valley also had two corner kicks to NM State's one.
Leah Wolf led Utah Valley in the box with two saves.Â
