Le'Tre Darthard and
Trey Woodbury each scored 16 points while
Aziz Bandaogo recorded a 15-point, 12-rebound double double to lead Utah Valley to an 80-75 overtime road win over Northern Arizona on Saturday afternoon at Rolle Activity Center in Flagstaff.
The win is the third straight for Utah Valley, which improves to 6-4 overall on the season. The Wolverines now return home to host SAGU on Tuesday at the UCCU Center.
Northern Arizona (4-8) jumped out to a 9-4 lead through the first 3:30 of the game. Woodbury connected on a pair of free throws and Ceaser knocked down back-to-back threes to spark a 15-2 UVU run to give the Wolverines an 20-11 lead at the 11:38 mark of the first half. UVU held on to its nine-point lead, 25-16, with seven minutes to go. NAU then scored seven unanswered points to cut the UVU lead to just two points, 25-23, with 5:20 to play in the first half. Woodbury hit a layup while fouled and converted on the free throw followed by another Ceaser three to help extend the lead to eight points, 31-23, with four minutes to go. NAU then outscored UVU 9-4 over the final four minutes to cut the UVU lead to just three points, 35-32, at the break.
Northern Arizona scored a layup to open the second half, cutting the UVU lead to just one point, 35-34. The Wolverines then used a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to jump out to an 11-point, 47-36, with 15:40 remaining in the game. UVU held on to its 11-point lead, 51-40, but a 12-4 NAU run over the next 3:21 cut the Wolverine lead to three points, 55-52, with 9:50 to play. UVU extended the lead to eight points, 66-58, with 6:16 to play, but a 10-2 NAU run over the final six minutes tied the game at 68-68 and sent the game to overtime.
The Wolverines opened overtime on an 8-2 run to take a 76-60 lead with two minutes to play. Darthard and Woodbury then knocked down their free throws down the stretch to secure the 80-75 win.
Darthard scored 11 of his 16 points from the free throw line, knocking down 11 of 12 shots from the stripe. He also made a pair of field goals, including a shot from long range. Darthard pulled down six rebounds to go along with three assists, two blocks, and a steal.
Woodbury hit 5 of 11 shots from the floor for his 16 points. He also went 5 for 8 from the charity stripe. Woodbury tallied seven rebounds and three assists.
Bandaogo went 6 of 8 from the field and 3 of 4 from the free throw line for his 15 points. He also pulled down 10 rebounds for his fifth double double of the season. Bandaogo also had two blocks and two assists.
Justin Harmon was also in double figures with 15 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
Ceaser had nine points off the bench, connecting on 3 of 6 shots from the floor, including a 3 of 4 clip from long range.
Tim Fuller had six points on a perfect 3 of 3 shooting.
Utah Valley shot 44.6 percent (25-56) from the field with a 35.3 percent (6-17) mark from beyond the arc. Northern Arizona shot 44.1 percent (30-68) from the field with a 29.2 percent (7-24) clip from three.
The Wolverines outrebounded NAU 46-29 on the night.
Utah Valley now heads home with a three-game win streak to take on SAGU on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. UVU will also host Antelope Valley on Friday, Dec. 16 before heading back out on the road to play Oregon on Dec. 20.
