PROVO, Utah — Utah Valley University opened the indoor track & field season with day one of the BYU Indoor Invitational on Thursday at Smith Fieldhouse.
Olivia Pixton and
Aaron Johnson both brought home gold in the long jump while
Joshua Clark also took first in the shot put.
Pixton's best jump was 5.49m with both
Paige Young (5.44) and
Kelsi Oldroyd (5.36) not far behind her in third and fourth, respectively. Pixton was also second in the triple jump (10.96).
Johnson — an outdoor All-American in the long jump — won handily, recording 7.52 meters on his best jump. Clark, who was also fifth in the discus (42.88) earned gold in the shot put after hitting 15.60 meters.
In the heptathlon,
Neal Berkey sits in third after the first day. He took first in the long jump (6.96) and was third in the high jump (2.05). The final three events — the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000m — will be held on Friday.
Madison Clark took fifth in the pentathlon behind a second-place finish in the high jump (1.61) while
Meg Walker was third in both the shot put (9.71) and long jump (5.06). Walker finished nine overall in the pentathlon.
Friday's schedule begins with the 60-meter hurdles in the heptathlon at 11 a.m. as the running events take center stage.
