OREM—Utah Valley University women's soccer head coach
Chris Lemay has announced that University of Arizona forward Quincy Bonds and Fresno State University midfielder Jaylyn Wright will transfer to play for the Wolverines.
Â
"Our program just got a lot more athletic with the additions of Quincy and Jaylyn," said Lemay. "Aside from being great players, Quincy and Jaylin are wonderful people that will fit into our team culture nicely. We are excited to continue to build our team for 2023 and feel like our first couple of additions are a great start."
Â
Bonds, a junior forward from Las Vegas, Nevada, spent the last three seasons at Arizona. She played in 15 matches this past season, recording five shots with four on frame. She tallied two points on the year with her first career goal against Iowa State. In her three seasons at Arizona, Bonds played in 47 matches with 10 starts. She had 12 shots with eight shots on goal.Â
Â
Bonds played for Heat FC ECNL, helping the team to four State Cup championships. She lettered all four years at Centennial High School in Las Vegas. Wright was the team captain and earned MVP honors during her senior season in 2019. She also received numerous All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference accolades while at CHS.Â
Â
"Quincy is a massive pick up, her pace will change the way that we can attack," Lemay said. "Quincy will pose a threat in the backspace for any opponent that we come up against next year. She is dangerous getting in behind and creating service or going to goal directly herself. We have a midfield that will be able to find the slip passes and allow for her to show off her abilities."
Â
Wright, a sophomore midfielder/forward from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, played two seasons at Fresno State. She played in 18 matches and made 13 starts this past season for the Bulldogs. She recorded 10 shots, five shots on goal, and one goal in 2022. She played in 19 matches with 18 starts during the 2021 season, scoring two goals with three assists for seven points. She also had 18 shots with nine on frame during her 2021 campaign.Â
Â
Wright finished second at nationals with Lakeshore Soccer Club and won the provincial cup (Quebec Cup). She played for the provincial team (Quebec) from 2017-19. She competed at the National Training Center and went to a pair of U17 Canadian National Team camps in 2019.
Â
"Jaylin is a player that we were recruiting during the COVID shut down but unfortunately were never able to get her on campus and seal the deal," said Lemay. "We were excited to see her come available in the portal so that we could rekindle the relationship. Jaylin has great athleticism as well and will be used as a wide back and wide forward. She comes to UVU with an outstanding resume having competed in the Canadian Youth National Team Program.Â
Â
Bonds and Wright will join the Utah Valley this spring and will compete for the Wolverines in 2023.Â
