Kemboi named Outstanding Track Performer to lead UVU at WAC Indoor Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Everlyn Kemboi was named Women's Outstanding Track Performer as Utah Valley's women's team took fifth at the WAC Track and Field Indoor Championships. Kemboi set a WAC record in the 5000m while also taking gold in the 3000m. The UVU men's team finished sixth behind Aaron Johnson winning the long jump.

"The meet was good, and the conference is one of the deepest in the country" said Utah Valley head track and field coach Scott Houle. "We had a lot of PRs, some school records, and a WAC all-time record with Everlyn. The WAC has been around for 60 years and for Everyln to beat that is pretty darn impressive.

"Also having Aaron Johnson who won the long jump and he'll be attending the indoor championships. He's had a great year and he's qualified for that I'm excited to see how he does. I'm really proud of all his work and effort. I think this was an eye opener and helped us to realize where we are at and where we need to go."

Kemboi broke an 18-year-old WAC record and in the 5000m, finishing with a time of 16:40.46. Kemboi now ranks 57th in the country and best in school history. Mazzie Melaney finished just behind Kemboi in the 5000m, clocking in with a time 16:40.49, to also beat the old record and take silver. Hannah Branch finished fourth with a time of 16:52.89, climbing to third in school history behind Kemboi and Melaney. Kemboi also took gold in the 3000m with a time of 9:38.35, setting a new UVU record, while Branch finished third with a time of 9:46.17 to climb to second in school history.

Larisa Dabb took second in the 400m, setting a new school record with a time of 55.43.   Maysen Rollo climbed to second in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.7m, while Ally Keil is now fifth with a height of 3.6m.
