Utah Valley picks up pivotal WAC win over Seattle U, 67-52

OREM—Fardaws Aimaq recorded a 19-point, 18-rebound double-double and Justin Harmon added 17 points to lead Utah Valley to a 67-52 win over Seattle U on Thursday night at the UCCU Center.

Utah Valley improves to 18-9 overall and 9-6 in WAC play, while Seattle U falls to 21-8 overall and 12-4 in league play.

"I was proud of our guys out there tonight," said Utah Valley head coach Mark Madsen. "I thought we did an exceptional job of moving the basketball. Justin Harmon with six assists and Connor Harding with seven assists. Those guys can both distribute the ball. We finished the game with 18 assists on 24 made baskets. I was really happy that the ball was moving so well. In the first half, we didn't shoot the ball particularly well, but it was a great defensive game on both sides. Give Seattle U a lot of credit. They are a very good team, but our guys stepped up tonight."

After falling behind 3-2 to start the game, Utah Valley used a 10-3 run to jump out to a 12-6 lead with 11:51 to play in the first half. Seattle U countered with a 9-3 run of their own over the next six minutes to tie the game, 15-15, with 6:33 remaining. The Wolverines then hit five free throws as part of a 7-2 run that gave UVU a five-point lead, 22-17, with 2:32 left in the half. The Redhawks got back to within one point, 22-21, with 1:44 to play, but Asa McCord and Blaze Nield each knocked down threes during the final minute of the half to take a 28-24 lead into the break.

Seattle took a 34-33 lead just four minutes into the second half on Cameron Tyson jumper. Aimaq then knocked down a three to spark a 17-3 UVU run over a 7:46 span to give the Wolverines a 50-37 lead with 8:11 to play.
