DAVIS, Calif. – The Utah Valley men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the outdoor season this weekend, sweeping the Aggie Open at UC Davis. The women's team finished with 162 total points, nearly doubling the second place team, host UC Davis, who finished with 89.5 points. The men's team dominated as well, totaling 174.5 points and winning by nearly 50 points over second place.
Everlyn Kemboi picked up where she left off, winning the 1500m with a time of 4:28.97.
Taylor Viertel and
Hannah Branch finished just behind Kemboi in the 1500m, taking second and third with times of 4:29.97 and 4:35.12, respectively. Kemboi also won the 3000m as the Wolverines took the top four spots. Kemboi clocked in at 9:29.02, while
Mazzie Melaney took second with a time of 9:29.92,
Caila Odekirk finished in third with a time of 9:30.29, and Branch took fourth with a time of 9:30.31.
Becky Swanson-Lowderwon the 400m hurdles, clocking in with a time of 1:04.99 and
Jenna Welch took second with a time of 1:06.39.
Madison Clark won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.65m, barely edging out teammate Kallie Given who also cleared 1.65m.
Sarah Carillo took first in the shot put, with a throw of 13.35m, while also taking third in the discuss with a distance of 39.90m.
Krista Farley took second in the long jump, clearing a distance of 5.73m.
Emma Newbold took second in the 200m with a time of 25.51.
Adam Bunker won the 2000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 5:53.48. Bunker also took second in the 3000m, finishing with a time of 8:20.09.
Seth Krauss won the high jump with a height of 2.10m, beating out teammate Dallin Snyer who cleared a height of 2.00m.
Porter Westerlind took first in the pole vault with a height of 4.85m while teammate
Alex Lawrence also cleared 4.85m.
Josh Clark won the shot put with a throw of 15.96m.
Zane Farrer took second in both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles, finishing with times of 14:52 and 55:37, respectively.
Jared Nation took second in the javelin throw with a toss of 56.82m.
Jacob Supinger finished second in the 200m with a time of 22.25.
Cameron Franklin took second in the 400m with a time of 48.97 while
Seth Dabb finished third with a time of 49.62.
Isaiah Gerald took third in the 400m hurdles with a time 56.77.
Jacob Egan finished third in the 800m with a time of 1:58.99.
Cameron Jacobs took third in the 2000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 6:02.01.
The Wolverines return home to Hal Wing Track and Field for the UVU Collegiate Invitational on March 31 through April 1. Utah Valley will also head to the University of Oregon for the Hayward Premiere April 1-2. UVU will also hosts its annual UVU High School Invitational on Saturday, April 2, at Hal Wing Track and Field.
