OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University heads to the Emerald City for four games including a pivotal three-game WAC series at Seattle University beginning Friday. UVU will also play at No. 10 Washington on Monday.
The Wolverines (19-20, 9-9) and Redhawks (24-21, 10-8) are both vying for the No. 2 seed in the WAC's West division. The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT with Saturday's finale at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT with all three games airing on ESPN+. Monday's game against the Huskies (29-11) is slated for an 11 a.m. PT/noon MT start and will air on Washington's stream on Pac-12.com.
The Wolverines are coming off of a walk-off win against Utah State on Wednesday, scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh to win for the fourth time this season when trailing after six innings. Utah Valley is 6-3 in its last nine games, with three of those wins coming in walk-off fashion.
Linnah Rebolledo delivered the game-winning RBIs, driving home both Danyé Albritton and
Laynee Betancur to win it.
Katie Zuniga pitched her eighth complete game of the season while also picking up her eighth win.
Madison Carr leads the WAC in both batting average (.438) and total hits (60) and is five hits shy of the single-season program record.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
UVU enters the series at Seattle U one game back for second place behind the Redhawks. A series for the Wolverines would have the two teams tied entering the final week of play. The top two seeds in each division will avoid the single-elimination first round at the WAC Tournament. The Redhawks took two of three from Utah Valley earlier this season in Orem. Olivia Viggiano leads Seattle with a .340 batting average while Carley Nance is batting .313 with 13 home runs and a WAC-leading 53 RBIs.
Washington hosts No. 21 Stanford in Pac 12 play before facing UVU on Monday. The Huskies' Baylee Klingler leads the Pac 12 with 20 home runs and a .450 batting average. Washington has won each of the five prior meetings between the programs.
UP NEXT
The Wolverines will host BYU next Wednesday before closing out the WAC regular season at home against New Mexico State next Friday and Saturday.Â
CARR SETS NEW PROGRAM ON-BASE STREAK
Madison Carr set a new program record by reaching base in 31 consecutive games, surpassing the old mark of 27, which was held by Lyndsay Steverson. Carr's 28th straight game reaching base came at BYU April 20.
