SEATTLE, Wash. – Everlyn Kemboi,
Larissa Dabb, and
Seth Krauss led the UVU men's and women's track and field team to a third-place finish in the 2022 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Seattle, Wash. The Wolverines finished with five gold medals to go along with 18 podium finishes as Kemboi and Dabb each won a pair of gold medals. Kemboi was also named the Women's Outstanding Track Performer.
On the women's team, Kemboi won both the 5000m and the 10,000m races, shattering WAC records in both events. Kemboi completed the 5000m race with a time of 16:15.85, topping a WAC Championship record that had stood for nearly 25 years. In the 10,000m, Kemboi broke a 25-year-old WAC Championship record, finishing with a time of 33:58.39. Hannah Branch (33:58.74) and Mazzie Melaney (34:02.91) took second and third the 10,000m, finishing with times that would have also broken the previous record. Branch also took third in the 5000m, finishing with a time of 16:19.28.
Dabb won gold in the 400m, clocking in with a time of 55.14 to move into third in school history. Dabb, Krista Farley, Ellie Norton, and Emma Newbold combined to lead the women's 4x100m team to a first-place finish, completing the relay with a time of 47.42. Kallie Given took second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.73m to set a school record. Caila Odekirk finished third in the 1500m with a time of 4:26.44 while Maysen Rollo also took third in the pole vault with a height of 3.80m to set a new school record.
On the men's side, Krauss broke the school record in the high jump, taking gold with a height of 2.17m. Aaron Johnson took second in both the 100m and the long jump, finishing with a time of 10.36 and a distance of 7.39m. Adam Bunker finished second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:44.91, while Zane Farrer took third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.12 to climb to second in school history. Dallin Snyder took third high jump, clearing a height of 2.08m while Neal Berkey finished third in the decathlon with 6670 points. The men's 4x400m relay team, comprised of Cameron Franklin, Caleb Furnell, Jacob Supinger, Seth Dabb, took third in the relay with a time of 3:12.97.
The Wolverines now await to see which athletes will make the cut for the upcoming NCAA West Preliminary competition, held in Fayetteville, Ark. on May 26-28.
