FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Utah Valley University begins competition at the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary Rounds in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Wolverines are sending a school-record nine student-athletes to the meet. The event will take place at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus, May 25-29, and will air on the SEC Network+.
The Wolverines had five women qualify for the preliminaries.
Hannah Branch,
Everlyn Kemboi,
Mazzie Melaney and
Caila Odekirk all qualified in both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter races. The quartet is fifth nationally in the 10k and 11th in the country in the 5k in the event squad rankings.
Taylor Viertel also qualified in the 1,500m. For Branch, it's her second time qualifying in both races.
The women will first compete on Thursday, May 26 with first round of the 1,500m at 6:30 p.m. and the 10k ending the night at 9:10 p.m. The 1,500 quarterfinals (5:15 p.m.) and 5k (8:10 p.m.) will come on Saturday, May 28, the final day of competition. The 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held from June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.
On the men's side, UVU will be represented by
Adam Bunker (3,000 Steeplechase),
Caleb Furnell (200m),
Seth Krauss (High Jump), and
Aaron Johnson (Long Jump). Furnell and Johnson both are returning qualifiers from 2021.
The men will open competition on Wednesday, May 25 with the Johnson and Furnell in action. The long jump scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT start and the 200 meter race slated for 8:45 p.m. The high jump (2:30 p.m.), 3,000m steeplechase (5:40 p.m.), and 200m quarterfinals (7:50 p.m.) are all scheduled for Friday, May 27 for the men.
