OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University returns home for the final week of the regular season and will host BYU in the final non-conference game on Wednesday in the UCCU Crosstown Clash. The Wolverines will then welcome New Mexico State for the final WAC series of the regular season with a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
Wednesday's game starts at 4:30pm MT while the series with NM State will feature noon MT first pitches on both days. Friday's game is earlier than normal due to UVU commencement and graduation ceremonies. All games will also air live on the WAC Digital Network.
This weekend will also feature Senior Day on Saturday, with eight Wolverines being honored for their playing careers:
Madison Carr,
Jordan Freas,
Kyla Hardy,
Rien Milliken,
Karleigh Olsen,
Peyton Prigge,
Linnah Rebolledo, and
Mikaela Thomson.
Carr continues to the WAC in both batting average (.427) and total hits (64) and is one hit shy of tying the program's single-season record during the NCAA Division I era. In WAC games, Carr is batting a league-best .466 with Rebolledo, who homered in Monday's game at Washington, right behind her at .456 in WAC contests.
The Wolverines (20-23, 10-11) are currently third in the WAC's West Division and would need to sweep New Mexico State and have Dixie State also sweep Seattle U in order to surpass the Redhawks for the No. 2 seed in the division. Otherwise, Utah Valley will be the No. 5 seed and play a single-elimination game to open the WAC Tournament next Wednesday in Huntsville, Texas.
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
BYU is 34-10 and has won nine straight games overall. The streak began with the Cougars' 2-0 win over the Wolverines on April 20 in Provo. In that game, BYU starter Chloe Temple allowed just three hits in notching one of her three shutouts this season. Huntyr Ava is batting .377 with Violet Zavodnik right behind her at .372 with both players tied for the team lead with 13 home runs.
New Mexico State enters this week's series with eight straight losses, including a sweep last week at home against California Baptist. The Aggies (10-34, 5-16) boast the top power-hitting team in the WAC with a league-best 55 home runs, with Ramsay Lopez leading the conference with 15. NM State won two of three between the schools earlier this season in Las Cruces, with UVU's lone win coming in an 18-14 marathon in the middle contest.
