OREM—The Utah Valley University men's basketball team has announced that it will be competing in the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic, Nov. 18-20, at the Montego Bay Convention Center in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
"We are excited to be competing in this year's Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic," said Utah Valley head coach
Mark Madsen. "We always want to give our players the opportunity to play a strong and competitive non-conference schedule. This event allows us to play games against high-level teams in a beautiful part of the world. It will be a great experience for our student-athletes and a destination that our fans can travel to and enjoy."
Set in one of the Caribbean's most beautiful destinations, the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic is a multi-team event that will feature eight top Division I men's college basketball teams, which will take place over three days from Nov. 18-20. Games will be televised and streamed by CBS Sports Network.
The 2022 Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic will feature eight teams from eight conferences that will go head-to-head in a Round Robin tournament at the Montego Bay Convention Center. The 2022 roster of teams includes Georgetown, Loyola Marymount, Wake Forest, LaSalle, Wisconsin Green Bay, Morgan State, Queens, and Utah Valley. The Wolverines will open the tournament on Nov. 18 against Morgan State. UVU will then play either Queens or Wisconsin Green Bay in the next round on Nov. 20.
"We are thrilled the tournament is back in arguably the most iconic destination in the Caribbean—beautiful Montego Bay, Jamaica," said Jacob Ridenhour, Jamaica Classic Executive Director. "Soaking in all that paradise offers — 85-degree sunshine, great basketball, the sounds of reggae music and the aroma of the jerk pit grilling – there's no better destination for a college fan to enjoy a basketball getaway. Come find out why they call Jamaica
the heartbeat of the world."
Utah Valley returns eight players, including three starters from last year's team that went 20-12 and picked up wins over NCAA Tournament teams BYU and New Mexico State.
For fans looking to cheer on their teams in paradise, direct flights into Sangster International Airport (MBJ) are available from nearly every major U.S. city.
